What Daniel from Weinverstehen says about Duca Amerigo

Under review: Duca Amerigo, Toscana IGT Rosso 2019, of Villa Cosmiana

Under review today a wine from Tuscany, Duca Amerigo 2019, the “supertuscan” of Villa Cosmiana.

After testing the younger sister (Principessa Maria) recently, it’s time to take a look at the property’s flagship.

Villa Cosmiana’s “Supertuscan” is named after its most illustrious historical owner: Duke Amerigo Antinori. It is both a tribute to the historic splendor of this centuries-old property and a clear affirmation of the new owners’ desire to reconnect with the estate’s tradition of excellence.

As with Principessa Maria, it is a Bordeaux blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. The difference ? It has a more dominant presence of Merlot and has been aged for at least 12 months in French and American oak barrels before maturing further for at least six months in the bottle.

The tasting: my impressions of my impressions of Duca Amerigo Toscana IGT Rosso 2019 from Villa Cosmiana

At the eye

In glass, the wine displays a beautiful shimmering and limpid ruby color. Compared to Principessa Maria, the shade is deeper and slightly darker.

At nose

A balanced bouquet of spicy and fruity nuances emerges from the glass: spicy scents from the wood which evoke cedar and nutmeg, fruity scents of red and blackberries from the Merlot and Cabernet grapes which evoke dominant black cherries with more delicate notes of strawberry, blueberry and blackberry. The whole is intense, fresh and invites you to taste it.

In mouth

In the mouth, Duca Amerigo delivers the delicate aromas of spices and fruit that it promises on the nose. Silky and elegant, it does not immediately reveal its tannins, which you only discover, at the end of the first sip like a long velvet carpet. The whole is balanced and harmonious and its freshness calls for successive sips; joyful, intense and long in the mouth, it slowly flows down the throat like a flood of crushed berries.

Before tasting, allow Duca Amerigo 2019 to aerate in a carafe for at least two hours due to its young age. The wine, delicious today, will not fail to gain flavor over the years with increased maturity.
